Born 1895 in Wadhurst, Kent, little is known of his School life except that he was in the Shell Form on leaving. In August 1914 he enlisted as a Private in the 1st Infantry Battalion of The Honourable Artillery Regiment and the following month left for France. In December 1914 he was invalided home with frost-bitten feet and on recovery was commissioned and transferred to the 3rd (Special Reserve) Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment and also appointed a Machine-Gun Officer in December 1915. In January 1916 he was promoted to Lieutenant in France and was badly wounded in March. He died of his wounds on 19th March 1916 in the Armentieres Region of France.
