Born Reading 1899. Little is known of his short School career.

In April 1918 he joined the Inns Of Court OTC, and gained a commission in The Scots Guards two months later. He saw action at the very end of the Great War. As a Second Lieutenant. Between the wars he worked as a journalist. He rejoined the forces in 1940 as a Second Lieutenant in the Auxiliary Military, Pioneer Corps. Rapidly appointed a Staff Officer (Labour) in the Department of the Quarter-Master-General to the Forces the same year. Lt Colonel 1941, Colonel 1944. Married 1923, 1943 and 1947. At some point he was posted with his regiment to Hebron, Palestine after the end of the war during their Civil War of Independence waged between the Jewish and Arab communities. Vernon was shot by ‘armed robbers’ near Hebron, Palestine 1947, and died before he reached hospital.
