Buried No Known Grave Remembered Interior Church Wall, Royal Garrison Church, Portsmouth, Hampshire. Not on any St. Edward’s School Memorial* - NEEDS CORRECTING. Born Portsmouth 1917, son of an Army Lieutenant Colonel. He was in the Science VIth For when he left. Worked for the Bristol Aero Company 1936-8. Joined the R.A.F. 1938, Pilot Officer 1939 with 10 Squadron Bomber Command R.A.F. our of R.A.F. Dishforth, North Yorkshire. Killed in an aerial accident in English Channel approximately 4 miles off Selsey Bill, Sussex. All six crew members including Miles were reported as ‘missing, believed killed’. No trace of the Armstrong Whitworth Whitney 1 Aircraft was ever found. Last seen over Spithead. The aircraft was on a night navigation training exercise. Service of Remembrance held at Ripon Cathedral on 5th Feb 1939. Miles was the co-pilot on this flight, eight months before the start of WW2.
