Born 1924. He was a School Prefect, in the Shooting and Swimming teams, Rugby Football XV 1940, Rowing VIII 1940/1 (Captain of Boats 1941), Lower Maths VIth. ‘From the first he had a particularly happy School career: he possessed a most attractive gift for friendship, and his traits of character will leave an abiding sense of gratitude among all who knew him. There was a charming modesty about him, especially when he rose to positions of responsibility. He exercised his duties in an unobtrusively efficient way and it left everyone contented’ (Chronicle). On leaving School he joined the R.A.F.V.R., Leading Aircraftman in 1942, 3rd Officer 1944, Pilot Officer 1945. He survived WW2. He decided to remain in the R.A.F. after the war. He was killed in an air accident on 11th September 1946 in an Airspeed Oxford Mark 1 Aircraft at Redmarley D’Abitot, Staunton, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, after taking off from Christchurch Airport on a journey to RAF Staverton in Gloucestershire. Official cause of the accident: - ‘Loss of control was caused by incapacitation of the pilot who became intoxicated by carbon monoxide leaking into the cabin. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and the pilot killed’.
