Born Bingham, Nottinghamshire 1914. He was in the Upper IVth Form when he left. He worked for the sales staff of Raleigh Industries in 1931. When war broke out he was commissioned in the 8th Battalion, The Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (The Sherwood Foresters), sent to Norway as part of the initial British response to the defence of that country from the German invasion. He was killed in action in Lillehammer.
