Born Aylesbury 1917, the son of a clergyman. He was a House Prefect, a Lance Corporal in the OTC and in the History VIth. He went up to St. Edmund Hall, Oxford 1936-8. He joined the R.N.V.R. in 1939 and was a Signalman by 1941, serving on H.M.S. “Audacity”, an Escort Carrier. when it was torpedoed by a German U-Boat in mid Atlantic late in 1941. Seventy-three of the crew (including Wynne) were lost and a ‘handful’ of survivors picked up by other British ships in the same convoy.
