Buried No Known Grave Remembered The Portsmouth Naval Memorial (Panel 66) and the St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial Born in Abingdon 1922. He was in Vd Form on leaving. He joined the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman in 1940 and joined the crew of HMS “Belmont” a British destroyer, which was sunk off the coast of Halifax, Nova Scotia by U-Boat U-82. One hundred and thirty-eight crew members perished. At the time this vessel was part of an escort of a returning Canadian Troop convoy (No. NA2).
