Born Portsmouth 1912, the eldest of three SES brothers, sons of an Army Captain. ‘He made many friends at School and exerted a particularly cheerful influence on all with whom he came in contact. His notable trait was his splendid keenness in everything he did. He never seems to have dull moments and threw himself into his work and games with equal rest ‘(Chronicle). He was in the Modern Shell Form. After school, he trained in a special branch of medicine and became an effective practitioner in electro-therapy. Meantime, he continued his military service with the Territorials (South Wales Borderers) following his proven capabilities in the School OTC. Once war was declared he joined the Brecknockshire Battalion, South Wales Borderers as a Second Lieutenant and by 1944 had risen to Major rank. Just prior to D-Day he was attached to the 10th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry as an Acting Lieutenant Colonel and was badly wounded on D-Day + 4, still in Normandy, later dying of his wounds. He is buried in a local cemetery.
