Born Dumfries 1920. He was a House Prefect, in the 2nd XI Cricket 1938, the Choir and a member of the Upper Remove. From 1938-9 he attended Bonn University. Commissioned in the Territorial Section of the Royal Tank Regiment in 1939, he transferred to the Fife & Forfar Yeomanry, Royal Armoured Corps in 1940 as a Second Lieutenant, part of the BEF sent to France to try and stem the German advances. He was killed in action at Vyfwege, Belgium during the retreat on Dunkirk. His body was never recovered and therefore he has no known grave.
