Buried Shotley Royal Naval Cemetery, Suffolk Remembered Roundhay St. John Commemorations 1939-45 and The St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial Born 1914, the son of a medical doctor, he was a scholar more than a sportsman at SES and had always intended to follow his father into a medical career. He was in the Classical Shell Form on leaving. He went up to St. John’s College, Cambridge 1925-8, gaining several degrees including BA, MB, Much, MRCS, LRCP, He further qualified as a Surgeon in 1933 and was attached to the Casualty Department at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, then transferring to a House Surgeon post at Charing Cross Hospital, also in London. He was also an Honorary Anaesthetist at the St. John & Elizabeth Hospital in North London. With the advent of war he joined the R.N.V.R. as a Surgeon-Lieutenant and died in service of an ‘illness’ (undefined) while based on H.M.S. “Ganges” a shore-based Naval facility.
