Born Wales in 1916, the son of an Oxford University Professor. On the outbreak of war he joined a Cadet Training Unit in 1940, then was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in 1940. The following year he transferred to the RAFVR Bomber Command with 49 Squadron flying Lancaster Bombers. Married 1939. He was killed in action close to home base in Scampton, Lincolnshire. ‘Crashed at Conway, Caernarvon while performing aerobatics during a ‘War Weapons Weeks’ Display’ (Official Report).
