Born in South Africa 1920, the elder of the two SES brothers, both killed in this war, sons of a doctor. His School career does not seemed to have been especially notable and the only quote for him in ‘The Chronicle’ stated: ‘to one privileged to know something of the visions he saw, it was not surprising that he chose the service that he entered’. He joined RAF Cranwell on leaving School in 1939, then a Pilot Officer on probation in 1940. He was fully qualified by 1941. He died in an air accident during a training flight for which ‘there was no explanation’. ‘The aircraft just shattered in the clouds’ (quote). He was piloting a Beaufort 1 Aircraft. His younger brother was killed in Italy later in the war.
