Born Cardigan in 1911. While at the School he coxed the School IV in 1928 and 1929. His final form was the Modern V. When the war broke out he joined the R.A.F.V.R. Bomber Command, qualifying as a Pilot Officer, and in 1943 was assigned to 49 Squadron, flying Lancaster Bombers. He was killed in action during a raid on Dortmund, crashing at Essen in May 1953 when hit by enemy ground fire on his first mission. Three of his crew survived and were taken prisoner but the rest of the crew, including Lewis, perished.
