Born New Hythe, Kent 1888, the younger of two SES brothers, sons of a clergyman, he was one of the small group of OSE who fought in both World Wars. His long School career appears to have been largely uneventful and on leaving he went up to Worcester College, Oxford before transferring to Durham University where he gained a BA in 1913. He was married in 1918 and again in 1936. He had a distinguished Great War, being commissioned with the South Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s Volunteers) and joining the staff of Sir George Buchanan at Basra Harbour in Mesopotamia, where he was wounded. Later he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps doing service in Egypt, and the North-West Frontier. From 1921-4 he taught in Southern Rhodesia and edited a weekly newspaper. From 1922-3 he was also Aide-de-Campe to the Governor of Mauritius. He then left Africa for Australia where he took to farming for three years, before joining the permanent teaching staff at the Victorian Education Department, Canada. In 1939 he was with Royal Sussex Regiment and was reported ‘as dying following an accident’ (Chronicle), by which time his rank was Captain. No further information known.
