Buried Eindhoven (Woensel) General Cemetery Remembered WW2 Memorial at St. John’s the Baptist Church, Itchen Abbas and The St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial Born Winchester 1909, he was a member the Classical VIth when he left and was in the Rugby Football XV of 1927 and a House Prefect. He went to Sandhurst 1928-9, commissioned in the North Staffordshire Regiment in 1929 as a regular soldier. Married 1904 and one son. From 1934-40 he served with the Nigeria Regiment, Royal West African Frontier Force participating in the Somaliland and Abyssinia Campaigns. When war broke out he was at the rank of Captain with the 21st Army, and in France with the BEF fighting in the first actions of WW2, at the time attached to the Durham Light Infantry. After the retreat on Dunkirk he held several key major and staff commands in the War Office, for which he was awarded the OBE in 1941. In 1943 he was transferred to the Headquarters of the 23rd Nigerian Infantry Brigade (East African & Madagascar), before returning as an Acting Lieutenant Colonel to his old regiment, the North Staffs, in 1944. He was badly wounded during Operation Market Garden in 1944, later dying of his wounds in Holland and buried in the Eindhoven (Woensel) General Cemetery,
