Born 1917, the elder of two SES brothers. He was in the Middle IV Form. ‘He was a keen sportsman, representing his House at cricket and rugby football and at the range. He was one of those unobtrusive, but in every way dependable, boys to whom the tone and welfare of the House owe so much’ (Chronicle). He was articled to Auctioneers and Estate Agents after he left his schooling. He joined the Royal Army Service Corps as a Territorial in 1939, working his way up to Sergeant. He continued in the regular army until 1941 when he transferred to the R.A.F.V.R. as a Sergeant-Observer. In 1943 he was attached to 264 Sqd Bomber Command, flying in Mosquitos as a Flight Sergeant. He was killed in action over St. Malo France, shot down by enemy fire and has no known grave.
