Buried No Known Grave Remembered The Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon, Dragon School War Memorial, and The St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial Born Birmingham 1913, the younger of two SES brothers, both of whom were lost in the Second World War. He was in the Lower Classical VIth when he left the School. ‘He was always remembered as a good natured and happy character’ (Chronicle). Like his brother, at the outbreak of war, he enlisted in the 83rd Anti-Aircraft Battery of the Royal Artillery, then later transferred to the 74th Maritime AA. He was lost while in transit from Glasgow, Scotland to Tampa, Florida on SS ‘Empire Progress’ which was torpedoed by U-Boat U-402 south of Cape Race, Newfoundland. Out of a complement of forty, twelve were lost, including Goodman. He has no known grave. His brother died in Egypt two months later.
