The Helles Memorial, The Chudleigh War Memorial, Devon, St. Michael Church, Lyonshall, Herefordshire (Plaque), The St. Edward’s School Chapel (Wooden Plaque) and The Cloisters Stone Memorial Born in 1884 in Alverstoke, Hampshire, the son of a deceased Royal Navy Commander. He was only at the School one year, but in that time became very attached to it and often returned in later years. On leaving he was in the Middle Moderns Form. After leaving full time education, he was a member of ‘The Militia’, and often helped out with the School’s embryonic OTC. In 1905 he joined The Essex Regiment, serving in Malta and Quetta for long spells between the Boer War and The Great War, when he was a Lieutenant with the 1st Battalion. He was promoted to Captain in March 1915, before being sent to the Dardanelles for that ill-fated expedition. He was killed very soon after arrival in action at Sedd-el-Bahr in April 1915 and was buried at Canakkale. ‘A fine type of brave and hardy manhood’ (Chronicle).
