Buried Bazentine-Le-Petit Communal Cemetery Ext, France Remembered Battalion Histories both in Alnwick and Newcastle, Amble War Memorial, Northumberland, The St. Edward’s School Chapel (Wooden Plaque) and The Cloisters Stone Memorial Born 1887 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, the son of a University Professor. He was a School Prefect at the School and in the IVth Form during his short stay. He went up to Queen’s College, Oxford 1906, BA 1909. Solicitor in the Morpeth and Gosforth area, married in 1915, with one daughter. He obtained a commission pre-war which he resigned in 1912. With The Great War breaking out, he was re-commissioned in the 7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers in August 1914 and immediately sent to the Western Front. He was wounded during the Second Battle of Ypres in 1915 then promoted to Captain in November of that year. He had not long returned from recuperation when he was killed in action in September 1916, at the head of his Company near Bazentine on the Somme.
