EVENTS FOR FAMILIES SATURDAY 1ST FEBRUARY Headline Act: Murder She Didn’t Write 7.30pm, The North Wall A classic murder mystery is created on the spot in this ingenious and hilarious show from Bristol Improv Theatre’s resident company. You become Agatha Christie in this improvised comedy as an original murder mystery play is created based entirely on audience suggestions. OXFORD LIFE

Go on a Margherita Mission Oxford is blessed with a plethora of brilliant pizza restaurants. Why not challenge yourself to find the very best? Try local favourite, Mamma Mia on South Parade, before venturing further afield. The White Rabbit, just around the corner from the Oxford Playhouse, is legendary for its gluten-free bases. On George Street you will find Franco Manca, a pizzeria specialising in pizzas made from slow-rising sourdough. Finally, scale the heights of the Westgate to sample the Neapolitan-style pizza served up at Pizza Pilgrims. If you’re feeling indulgent try the Nutella pizza ring – delicious dough filled with chocolate and hazelnut spread and salted ricotta.

Ashmolean Museum Young Rembrandt 27th February–7th June Daily, 10.00am–5.00pm

College Garden Worcester College Daily, 2.00–4.00pm

Worcester’s gardens are particularly beautiful at this time of year. Make your way through the archway in the front quad (containing some of the oldest buildings in Oxford) and towards the lake to spot rare snowdrops nestled in the lawns like gems. While you're there take a moment to check out the College Chapel (pictured), richly decorated by William Burges in 1864 – the pew ends are particularly charming, finished with beasts including a unicorn and a blue whale.

This major exhibition will be the first in the UK to explore the early years of the career of the most famous of all Dutch artists,

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669). Beginning with his earliest known

paintings, prints and drawings, made in his native Leiden in the mid-1620s, and ending at the moment he rocketed to stardom in Amsterdam in the mid-1630s, this exhibition will chart an astonishing transformation.

8

Modern Art Oxford Johanna Unzueta: Tools for Life 8th February–10th May Saturdays 10.00am–5.00pm, Sundays 12.00–5.00pm Tools for Life  is the first ever UK solo exhibition of New York-based Chilean artist Johanna Unzueta (b. 1974). Featuring a large-scale felt installation, a collection of garments, a film shot at a textile factory in Chile, a wall mural and a selection of freestanding geometric drawings inspired by natural patterns, the exhibition reflects Unzueta’s interest in shared histories of community, geography, nature and labour practices.

Blenheim Palace Let’s Misbehave

15th February–13th April Daily, 10.00am–5.00pm

For this event Blenheim will transport its visitors back in time to the 1920s, a time of great social, artistic and political change. Costumed characters will roam the palace, vintage cars will grace the lawns and there will be music, dancing and more. Why not enjoy a themed afternoon tea in the Orangery Restaurant? Admittance is free with an Annual Pass. If you don’t have one already convert your day pass for no extra charge and enjoy entry to the Palace, Park and Gardens all year round.

The photographs show not just the emotional intensity and beauty of ballet but also reveal the sustained physical exertion and discipline of a dancer’s life, providing a fascinating glimpse of the world of British ballet from the late 1950s to the turn of the century. The Gift 2.00pm, The North Wall Two black women from two different centuries meet to take tea with Queen Victoria.
