Born 1864 in Witney, the son of a clergyman. He was only at the School a short time and when he left was in the Moderns Form in the Upper School. He enlisted in the 16th Lancers in 1882, before leaving for Malaya where he was successfully involved in coffee, Cinchona Coconut, tea and rubber planting. During this time he married in 1895, and was also a member of the Ceylon Rifles. In February he returned to England and was commissioned in the Bedfordshire Regiment as a Captain and left for France. This only lasted three months, as he relinquished his commission due to ill health (caused by stress) and died in England the following July. He was buried in Devon.
