Born Merseyside 1925, the middle of three SES brothers, one of whom died shortly after D-Day. On leaving he was in the Science VIth Form and a Lance Sergeant in the OTC. He was commissioned in the Royal Marines as a Second Lieutenant in 1944, Lieutenant a year later and posted to Malaysia. He was present at ‘Operation Boot’ during the occupation of Sebang, Malaysia. He survived the Second World War. He was again later posted to Malaysia in 1950 during the ‘Malayan Emergency’ or the ‘Anti-British Liberation War’ (1948-60). He continued his service with the Royal Marines after WW2 and was serving in Malaysia when ‘he was shot and killed when a patrol he was leading was ambushed about eight miles from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, by a strong force of communist terrorists. A fellow Corporal was also killed at the same time (‘The Light Blue Lanyard’). Over 500 British servicemen were lost in this War and another 2,400 wounded.
