Born Croydon, Surrey 1922. He was a House Prefect, Editor of the ‘Chronicle’, Hon Sec of the Arts Society, Lance Sergeant OTC and the History VIth. ‘There was that utter selflessness in his spirit that could not be contented without anything less than we had all seen what he could do with his brush and pen. Some of his poems are reprinted in the December 1944 ‘Chronicle’. We shall all remember with affection his self-depreciating habit of thought, his loyal friendship and his genuine sincerity’ (Chronicle). He joined the war effort straight from School with the King’s Royal Rifles Corps, as a Lance Corporal. He then gained a commission with the same regiment a year later and was promoted Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion (‘The Queen’s Westminsters’) in 1943. He was killed when his tracked vehicle hit a German mine near the River Seine in France during the inland advance towards Germany after D-Day.
