Age 34
Buried No Known Grave Remembered The Dunkirk Memorial, and The St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial
Born 1902, the son of a Surgeon Commander, otherwise little else is known of his time at the School. He went to Sandhurst in 1924, and gained a commission in the York & Lancaster Regiment five years later. He transferred to the Royal Ordnance Corps in 1933. In 1939 he was part of the BEF force, now a Captain, that sailed to France to try and help stem the rapid German advance. While in post he was made up to Acting Lieutenant Colonel, 5th Division, and Deputy Assistant Director, Royal Army Ordnance Corps in France. He was last seen on the beach at Dunkirk, badly wounded in the hip, encouraging his men into the boats then never seen again. He was officially listed as ‘missing’ and assumed to have died of his wounds. He was a married man with one son.
