Born Dublin, Ireland 1917, the elder of two SES brothers, sons of a senior clergyman. Very little is known of his short Teddies career or immediately afterwards. He was more of a scholar than a sportsman. He was in Form Shell C when he left. He went up to Trinity College, Dublin in 1934 and shortly afterwards joined the RAF in 1936. With the outbreak of war he was a Flight Officer, attached to 48 Squadron Bomber Command - killed returning from a coastal patrol in an Avro Anson Aircraft (4 crew) over Hampshire in foggy conditions. ‘Flew into high ground on St. Catherine’s Down, near Whitwell, Isle of Wight, in fog, returning from a convoy patrol, only one crew member survived, but was severely injured’ (Official Report). He was the first OSE lost in WW2.
