He was in the Choir, the Shooting VIII and the History VIth. ‘Remembered as a boy who always looked tough, wealthy and smug. One was surprised to find his character giving the lie to his appearance, for he was quite an orderly boy with an aptitude for scholarship and s keen appreciation for music. He left early and went to Australia where he spent many years as a sheep farmer, writing enthusiastically about his work in the vast lovely area he had to cover’ (Chronicle)’ When war broke out he enlisted with the 2nd Australian Imperial Force in 1940, later commissioned in the 2/20 Battalion, Adelaide Rifles, Australian Imperial Force in 1942 as a Lieutenant. He joined The Australian Expeditionary Force early in the war, when Australia itself was in danger of invasion by Japan. He was killed in action fighting the invading Japanese at the Battle of Buna-Gona in Papua New Guinea at the end of 1942.
