Buried Loose Cemetery, Maidstone, Kent Remembered War Memorial, Kent, Roll of Honour STC (Lochailort) and The St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial Born Stoke-on-Trent 1916, the only son of a clergyman (also OSE), who was known as ’Banker’ after an Airedale ‘whose loyalty and directness of purpose described his own personality. ‘He was an active boy and from the time of his arrival, as a small intense boy to his last year, when he gave valuable services as an oarsman and to his House as a Prefect ‘(Chronicle). He was a House Prefect and a member of the School Rowing VIII in 1934/5, a Corporal in the OTC, and in the Science VIth Form. He went up to Selwyn College, Cambridge 1935-7, then worked for a firm of Chartered Accountants until the war broke out. In 1940 he joined an Officer Cadet Training Unit and shortly afterwards was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 1st Special Service Battalion of the London Regiment (The Royal Fusiliers). During his training he slipped and fell 300 feet on Ben Nevis to his death in May 1940. ‘It is sad to think that his good humour is but a memory and his energy stifled’ (Gerry Segar, his House Master).
