Born Hoylake 1916, he was ‘not at the School for long, but he was at SES long enough to make many firm friends by his sense of fun and invariable high spirits and his love of School life’ (Chronicle). He was in the 2nd XI Cricket 1933 and a member of the Va Form on leaving. From 1934-9 he worked in the insurance industry, joining the Royal Artillery (TA) in 1937 remaining with them until his death in 1944. When war broke out he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1939, promoted to Lieutenant in 1941 then Captain with the 1st Field Regiment in 1943 in Italy. He was killed in Italy in action in September 1944, no further details found despite thorough research. His non-OSE brother was also killed in the war.
