Born 1916 in New Zealand, he was at the School only two years (joining at the age of 15 years), he sometimes appeared in the School’s Rowing VIII and was in the ‘Special’ Form. After leaving the School he went back to New Zealand and attended the Canterbury Agriculture College 1934-6 and achieved a Diploma in Agriculture. He then took up farming. A married man. When war broke out he joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force in their 19th Operational Training Unit, flying Whitney Bombers. While training in Scotland he was killed during an evening flight when his aircraft crashed into the western side of Carn A’Choire Mhoir near Tomatin, Inverness-shire, four of the seven-man crew and severely injuring the three survivors. Pilot error was the probably cause of the accident as the conditions prevailing were ideal.
