Born 1912 in Cumberland Comox Valley Regional District, British Columbia, Canada, a member of the School Rugby Football XV 1928, and in the Modern Vth Form. “Though young in age when he came to the School, he matured beyond his years, both bodily and in outlook. But he was a gentle giant; by controlling his great strength, learnt to control others; for he was a born leader, an outstanding personality not only for his powers of endurance but also in his generous and kindly nature’ (Chronicle). After leaving school he went into the backwoods of Canada and other parts of the British Empire however when war broke out he joined the RAFVR in 1939. He was first an Acting Pilot Officer in Bomber Command then an Acting Flight Lieutenant in with 150 Squadron flying Stirlings by September 1941. He was Mentioned in Despatches and awarded a DFC in 1942. He was made up to Flight Officer with 214 Squadron (Federated Malay States) Squadron in 1842 and it was while he was attached to them that he was killed in action over Lorient, France. His aircraft had taken off from Chedborough in Suffolk at 18.26 hrs and was known to have reached France but was never seen again. All seven crew were lost.
