Born in London 1865. The oldest OSE to be lost in WW2. He was recorded as having been a member of the Vth Form when he left. Little is known of his School days at St. Edward’s but he was a very proactive OSE and attended many events between the wars, often as Guest of Honour. He was married in 1904. He was a retired lawyer at the time of his death which occurred on the night of 11 May 1941 during the worst night of the London Blitz to date when he was staying at the Alexandra Hotel near the Albert Hall. His body was never recovered. The hotel was struck by a single high explosive bomb that smashed straight through five floors of this opulent 1864 hotel, detonating in the heart of the building and completely demolishing the central stairwell, ornate spiral staircase and lift shaft. 24 were killed and 16 were seriously injured.
