Buried No known grave Remembered Thiepval Memorial, Liverpool Town hall (Panel 35), St. Edward’s School Chapel (Wooden Plaque), The Cloisters Stone Memorial Born 1897 in Grassendale Park, Liverpool, he was at the School only a short time before leaving to join the war effort. When he left he was in the Upper Moderns Form. Previously he was a boarder at Braeside School in West Kirby. He enlisted as a Private in the Royal Army Medical Corps (attached to the 4th Battery Howitzer Regiment) in August 1914, straight from School on his 17th birthday. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the 15th Battalion, The King’s Liverpool Regiment in December 1914, assigned the role of a ‘range finding’ officer’. He left for the trenches in February 1916, as part of one of the ‘Pal’s Battalions’ and was killed during the Battle of the Somme in late July 1916 at Guillemont, Northern France.
