Buried Sheppey Cemetery, Sheerness, Isle Of Sheppey, England Remembered Bideford Church, Devon (Tablet), St. Edward’s School Chapel (Wooden Plaque) and The Cloisters Stone Memorial Born 1884 in Kent, his main achievement in his short term at the School was that he stroked the School Rowing IV in 1900. He was in the Modern Form. After leaving the School he spent a year in Belgium in order ‘to acquire foreign languages’. He Then trained as an engineer at the Hatcham Iron Works, New Cross, London. During this period he attended technical classes at the Goldsmiths’ Institute. A married man. When war broke out he enlisted in the Armoured Car Division of The Royal Naval Auxiliary, as a Motor-Cyclist. He sailed for the Dardanelles on 3rd March 1915 with Squadron 4, and was present at the historic landing on 15th March when many of his comrades were killed . While overseas he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. He was invalided home, then promoted to Lieutenant, Royal Naval Air Service, Seaplane Division, in late 1915. For a time he was attached to the Eastchurch Naval Flying School as a Pilot. It was during this spell that in January 1916 he was killed in a BE2c No. 1146 Seaplane in which he was flying as an Observer which had engine trouble, begun to descend, was then caught by a gust of wind and turned over, the pilot survived, but Northcott was killed
