Buried Ypres, Belgium Remembered The Menin Gate, Ypres, The St. Edward’s School Chapel (Wooden Plaque) and The Cloisters Stone Memorial Born 1896 in Kanturk, County Cork, Ireland, the third son of a deceased medical doctor. One of his brothers was also at St. Edward’s. Maurice was in the Rugby Football XV 1912 and in the VIth Form. He went up to London University in 1914, but never finished his studies. In May 1915 he was commissioned in the 15th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment and on the Western Front by November, promoted to Lieutenant in December. During his war service he was awarded the MC and TD. He was killed the following March ‘Pointing out evening trenches at dusk to a Staff Officer’ (Chronicle).
