Rhubarb December 2025
T he summer meeting took place at Frilford Heath on Friday 13th June, played on the Red course which was in great condition with very fast greens, being prepared for Open qualifying the next week. There was a group of 30, comprising of current students, young OSE, leavers from the last 10 years, as well as groups from the 1960s and ‘70s. It’s great to have such a broad spectrum of Martyrs and bodes well for the future of Martyrs Golf. The nearest the pin competition was won by Stephen Matthews (Tilly’s, 1973-1978), who also won the nett competition with 39 points winning the Wethey Salver, presented by Martyrs stalwart SUMMER MEETING FRILFORD HEATH GOLF CLUB – JUNE 2025 Report by Charlie Reid (Segar’s, 1973-1978)

2016-2021), his good friend from School, who is currently working towards Pro status, are an unbeaten combination. Ed Watson (Apsley, 1996-2001) and Charlie Reid (Segar’s, 1973-1978) provided a more mature combination of power and experience. On Thursday we met at Hunstanton for a practice round in fairly benign conditions. Five of the team hadn’t played there before so it was a steep learning curve for them. On Friday morning we were due to play Trent College, who had a tidy lineup of scratch golfers. Imagining a conventional selection from them, I reversed our order. Unfortunately, this weekend was destined to be dominated by Storm Amy. It was raining steadily when we started with a stiff following breeze which is largely helpful for the first eight holes but then the homeward nine is mainly into wind. In the morning we managed to get the better of Trent winning 2/1, which was a magnificent result. Kerr and Alex were very steady and in the last match Jack’s power through the wind was a significant factor. Ed and Charlie playing top provided stiff opposition but were ultimately up against a very strong partnership. It was still raining when we set off against Taunton in the afternoon and the wind speed was rising steadily. By mid afternoon all our waterproofs were leaking and the weather was deteriorating. Ed and Charlie were up against it and didn’t really have the firepower to compete. Kerr and Alex were in the ascendancy until an unexpected slump around the turn left them with too much to do.
GRAFTON MORRISH FINALS OCTOBER 2025 Report by Robin Ellis (Segar’s,1964-1969) A ssembling a team for this year’s finals at Hunstanton has proved unusually testing. However, in the end we had three remarkably compatible pairings. Kerr Drummond (Segar’s, 1998-2003) and Alex Holding (Field House, 2012-207) are stalwarts from our 2023 campaign and together provided a formidable partnership. Jack Parry (Field House, 2018-2021) combined with Josh Drennan (Apsley,
