ST EDWARD’S

ose events

S adly the pandemic put our usual myriad of in-person events on hold this year so our write up is decidedly smaller than usual. We look forward to making up for it next year however, we hope you have seen the calendar! You will see that the events schedule includes a mix of in-person and virtual events as we are keen to learn from the limitations of this year where virtual events made it more possible for OSE spread throughout the world and busy with work and families to join in.

OSE EVENTS

2020-2021

Magic Show 25TH FEBRUARY 2021

Nearly 100 people logged on to be entertained by Magician Max Rendall, who has entertained celebrities and members of the Royal Family throughout his career. Max taught us some brilliant card tricks and amazed us with his sleight of hand skills, even with a very close camera sharing every move! There was much audience participation and it was a thoroughly entertaining and very different evening.

TEDDIES UNCORKED VIRTUAL WINE TASTING 11TH DECEMBER 2020 ‘ Teddies Uncorked’ our first ever VirtualWine Tasting event took place on Friday 11th December within over 100 homes spread across the country joining together OSE, parents, staff and friends alike. It was a terrific evening hosted by current parent Caroline Helm from Haynes Hanson & Clark and our very own David Aldred (Segar’s, 1981-1986) who is also Head of Drama at Teddies, President of the Common Room and our resident Bee Keeper! The evening enabled many families and friends to join together albeit virtually, where much fun and frivolity was had and as a bonus we all tasted and learnt about some quality wines! A special mixed case of two half bottles of reds, two whites and a full surprise bottle was designed specifically for the evening which we all tasted ‘blind’, trying to guess what they might be. A brief tutorial and fun, informal quiz followed in small breakout groups. The formal part of the evening lasted about 90 minutes but some attendees were still online chatting between themselves after four hours! It was a great evening and we look forward to hosting it again in a slightly enhanced model reflecting we hope greater freedom later this year. We will be encouraging friends and families to meet together in groups of 4-8 and then dial in to join other teams to see who knows the most, you’ll be surprised. See you there!

Teddies Virtual Quiz

19TH MARCH 2021

Over 250 people attended the annual virtual Teddies Quiz – its biggest ever turn out! It was wonderful to see OSE, current parents, former parents and staff getting involved from all around the globe (Australia, Bangladesh, Germany…the list goes on!). Congratulations to team QuizWhitty (Common Room) for winning and for pushing theWarden down into second place!

JOHN WIGGINS BOAT NAMING 22ND MAY 2021 Planning a surprise event is always challenging but none more so than when the surprise is for one of your team! Nevertheless we managed to do just that when Hon Sec John Wiggins was invited to lunch with the Warden only to discover it was a surprise boat naming ceremony in his name. Family, former and current colleagues and members of the winning 1999 crew along with current senior crew all gathered in theWarden’s garden having been sworn to secrecy. John’s loss for words was genuine but temporary and a lovely lunch was enjoyed by all. John said ‘It was great then to see the boys move the boat so well, generating great speed and getting faster and faster as they worked towards the delayed Henley Royal Regatta taking place in a few days’ time”.
