Weekends at Teddies Autumn Term 2022
OXFORD LIFE
Books for the Senses Rub, stroke, chew, wear, sniff – this exhibition ‘Sensational Books’ explores our experiences of the book beyond reading. Structured around six senses of sight, sound, taste, smell, touch and proprioception – the sense of self movement and body-perception – this exhibition unlocks a world of sensory engagement with books. You can explore how early books and manuscripts engaged with the senses, in ways similar to more recent works by book artists in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Using dynamic and interactive elements from sound artists, tactile displays and even a smell wall, this exhibition celebrates the book in all its forms. ST Lee Gallery, Weston Library. Free admission. Until 4th December.
Environmental Exhibition Start a discussion about environmental damage at the exhibition ‘Waste Land’ at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. A new exhibition of the aerial photography of American photographer and climate activist, J Henry Fair, featuring groundbreaking images of the environmental damage caused by mining, manufacturing, agriculture, and energy generation. Capturing the electric colours and patterns of vast landscapes, extreme temperatures and awesome scale, the photos simultaneously resemble masterful abstract paintings and reveal the terrible extent of the damage being inflicted on the earth. Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Upper Gallery – 10.00 to 17.00. Free admission. Until 20th November.
A College with a Deer Park One of the most beautiful Oxford colleges, Magdalen College was founded in 1458, so it is steeped in history and is worth visiting for the breath-taking buildings, delicate statues, and of course, inspiration for future studies! Situated at the end of the High Street, it is open to visitors throughout the year, with the Hall, Chapel, and Old Kitchen Bar granting you an insight into life at the college. Like Teddies, Magdalen enjoys 100 acres of grounds, so you can head into the gardens and parkland to enjoy Addison’s riverside walk along the Cherwell and see the famous deer park. No need to book in advance, just turn up. Tickets: Adults £8; children £7; Family ticket £25.
