26 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

Tristan Mayglothling What do you do atTeddies and how long have you been at the school? I am the Head Coach of Girls’ Rowing, a role Before coming to Teddies I was the Rowing Professional at Cheltenham College whilst studying for my degree in Sports Coaching. Before that, I coached the Danish national Junior and U23 teams, and also spent time as the Performance Men’s Coach at Melbourne University and Head Women’s Coach at Durham University. What do you most enjoy about your role? Watching the girls develop and grow in confidence as their performance improves. What has been your favouriteTeddies moment so far? We had 18 girls training together in the gym recently. They were really pushing themselves and enjoying what they were doing - it was great to watch and be part of. Favourite menu item from theTeddies kitchen? Porridge after coaching a morning session is excellent. My expanding waistline suggests I like the food at Teddies a little too much. What was the naughtiest thing you did at school? That I can put in writing and admit to – kicking a football through a window…I owned up. Who was your most inspiring teacher - and why? The PE teachers at school inspired me to be the best I could. I spent more time around them when I was training and their support was invaluable. If you could embark on a wild adventure of your choosing, what would it be? I’d love to cycle across Europe or swim the Channel. Anything that pushes me physically and mentally would be a great adventure. What would be your Desert Island book? Anything to do with motivation for sport such as Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable or Black BoxThinking . Best advice you’ve ever been given? Eradicate hope from your life. Go out and make it happen rather than sitting back and hoping it will. I started in September 2015. Where were you before?
