PEOPLE We are delighted to welcome a number of new teachers to St Edward’s this term. David Roche, who has a BEng from Imperial College and is completing his PhD in Medical Materials at Cambridge, joins us to teach Science. He is a qualified sailing instructor and rows in his College’s 1st VIII. Lauren Mackrell joins us to teach Drama from Alton Convent School where she also co- ordinated the extra-curricular programme for the Lower School. Huw Thomas, a rugby Blue and cricket coach, joins us to teach History. Huw has a Law degree and is completing his MEd at Wolfson College, Cambridge. Tom Phillips and Oliver Glass join us to teach Maths. Tom, a rugby player and a qualified Mountain Leader, previously served as an Officer in the Army’s Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Oliver joins us from Manchester Grammar where he was also a rugby coach. Robert Cottrell, a former House Tutor at Sutton Valence, will join us in January 2016 to teach Spanish, and to coach rugby, hockey and tennis. Congratulations to the following on new internal appointments: Margaret Lloyd becomes Assistant Head Academic; Ollie Barstow, Head of Design; Dom Barker, Head of Maths; Andrew Grounds, Head of Middle School (Fourths and Fifths); and Andrew Dalgleish, Master i/c Rugby. John Simpson takes up the post of Examinations Officer in September 2016 and will work alongside David Moore until July. Goodbye and good luck to Mary Bradley who left at the end of last term to move to Spain. Finally, congratulations to Florence and Jeremy Mather on the birth of Maximus Jeremy William, a brother for Freddie, on 23rd April.

Team Spirit At the end of term, Simon Roche and Gavin Turner took the Segar’s Lower Sixth to Winspit Quarry in Dorset for their Prefect training. Showing great spirit and camaraderie, the boys spent a weekend cooking on a fire, sleeping under the stars, rock climbing and playing cricket, and are now well prepared to work as a group to lead the House this year.

Harrison Ward Harrison ( John Mason ) shattered a 17-year record this summer when he became the youngest player

to score a century for Oxfordshire. He made 109 not out on his
