Football By Nic Bond, Deputy Director Sport 1st XI Whilst the season can only be described as a challenging one, we reflect on the one aspect that we are most proud of: that the St Edward's Football Club has consistently got its attitude absolutely spot on. Several of our opposition schools commented on how smart we looked as an outfit, how polite we were off the field, fighting hard and fair on the field, all the while absolutely respecting the man in black. With thanks to Rory Saldanha for skippering the team in his fantastic ‘lead by example’ manner in all those aspects. The Teddies 1st XI started the season with a punishing victory over Wycliffe College which excited the dressing room staff about the season ahead. However the boys came up against physically strong and

year bigger and stronger, with another year’s experience of playing together, with a sprinkling of more resilience and a soupçon of promising Fifth Formers thrown in, I am already looking forward to next season. 2nd XI A challenging season with Teddies often finding themselves against opponents with greater depth in numbers. The 2nd XI showed a worthy attitude to both training and matches, always giving a good account of themselves despite the disappointing scorelines. Of particular note were Thai Pinsiranon and Archie Valentine for their dedicated approach to the team. With a number of Lower Sixth pupils playing for the 2nd team this year, next season is full of promise.

Teddies had some outstanding performances but just fell short in front of goal and often conceded within the final few minutes of the game. The highlight of the season was a fantastic game versus Cheltenham College played at St Edward's where both strikers managed to find their scoring boots and Nicolas Moisy used his height to full advantage heading home to take our tally to three goals. Cheltenham fought back to 3-2 but could not break through the Teddies defence. Fitness and tactical awareness is the focus going into the 2019 season which promises to be slightly more successful. With eight members of the Lower Sixth regularly playing in the 1st XI last season, the future is bright, however. Being another
