SEGAR’S HOUSE HANDBOOK

WELCOME
Welcome to Segar’s House Joining a new school is bound to be nerve-wracking as well as exciting. This handbook is designed to alleviate some of those nerves and provide answers to questions that you might have as a simple reference point for all things Segar’s and Teddies. There is also an A–Z at the end which hopefully will answer specific points, for anything else please ask! In my role as HM, I have overall responsibility for your son’s wellbeing at school. This includes his emotional and social wellbeing as well as his academic progress and involvement in the co-curricular life of the school. Moreover, it is important to me that boys leave Segar’s with not only excellent results but also an admirable character, a strong sense of duty, and friendships for life. Segar’s boys in general will ‘have a go’ and lead in whole school activities – be it school singing, reading in chapel, or trying a new sport. They also take great pride in being gentlemanly and polite. I am supported in my role by a fantastic team – the Assistant HM Henry Moore, the House Matron Julie Richens, the Resident Tutor David Caro Solano together with our tutors.
If you have any concerns about your son, please do get in touch with me or one of the team (see the contact details below) by email, text, or phone. We all aim to reply to emails within 24 hours but for anything more urgent please phone me on my mobile or the House phone. In an emergency, you can also contact the Sub-Warden. It is really important that we can contact you or a guardian, so please ensure you let me know if your contact details change.
Richard Jackson Segar’s Housemaster (HM)
I joined Teddies in 2023 to teach History and have been HM in Segar’s since September 2024. Before teaching I read History at Brasenose College, Oxford. I joined the Royal Navy and then the Foreign Office before deciding to become a teacher in 2015. In the holidays I live in Salcombe, Devon, and Rousham, Oxfordshire, with my wife Siena and children Cordelia and Edmund. I’m always here to help and to support you as parents. I’ll probably be the first port of call when you have questions or concerns. I am committed to making Segar’s a home away from home, full of laughter, kindness and, of course, hard work!
