collaborations lead to a Perrier nomination, and the winning of both ‘So You Think You’re Funny?’ and the BBC New Talent award. Up until 2008 he combined the artistic directorship of the National Youth Theatre with a prolific writing career. As Co-Artistic Director of Iron Shoes he continues to produce work for the theatre.

Paris, first performed at St Sulpice, and ‘Majora Canamus’, written for the Southern Cathedrals’ Festival in Winchester, and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. His Magnificat has been recorded by Serafine Chamber Choir & Sinfonia to wide critical acclaim. Three Christmas pieces have also recently been recorded for SANSARA’s acclaimed album, The Waiting Sky . His St Mark Passion was commissioned by the St Endellion Easter Festival and first performed in 2019. The Church Times commented, ‘No words here can reproduce the awed silence at the end — the longest I have ever known at a concert. An amazing evening.’ Future releases include a reflection on Edward Elgar’s ‘The Spirit of the Lord’ for Sonoro as part of their ‘Choral Inspirations’ series, and a setting of ‘Maria Virgo assumpta est’ for ORA Singers, soon to be released on Harmonia Mundi. Upcoming commissions include a piece for the 2022 St David’s Cathedral Festival to be broadcast on BBC Radio 3, and pieces for Cheltenham College and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

Bridget Whyte Bridget Whyte was appointed CEO of Music Mark in 2017. She started her career at the Arts Council before

going freelance, working with over 50 organisations. Key clients included Youth Music, and the Department for Education (DfE), and she was a Strategic Advisor to the British Council, managing their World Voice Programme in over 20 countries. As Music Mark’s CEO, Bridget Whyte is in demand as a speaker and advisor at a national and international level. She is currently part of the DfE’s National Plan for Music Education ‘refresh’ Expert Panel and is also supporting the Welsh Government on writing a new National Plan for Music. Emma Coulthard Musician, educator and author Emma Coulthard has a lifelong passion for bringing the best musical opportunities to all pupils. Emma studied Flute, Recorder, Piano and Voice at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and holds an MA in Musicology from Trinity College Dublin. Active as a Music Development Officer in Nottingham, Head of Service in Cardiff and presently Head of Service for Oxfordshire, Emma enjoys uniting partners and bringing communities alive with the power of music. She is active as an international performer of Contemporary Flute, commissioning new works from composers, and is the author of the ‘Best Duet’ and ‘Recorder Wizard’ series, and composer for Trinity’s ‘Music Moments’ series.

Jack Fairbrother Jack teaches A Level Music Technology and the Music and Music

Technology Pathway at St Edward’s Oxford. Jack completed a BSc Music and Sound Recording (Tonmeister) course at the University of Surrey, and has previously worked as a studio runner at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Merlin Blackham Merlin teaches Music Technology at St Edward’s from Fourth Form to

Upper Sixth, as well as carrying out maintenance and operation of lighting and audio equipment and running live events within the Olivier Hall and around the School.

Lawrence Tao

Lawrence Tao is Assistant Head Academic at St Edward’s Oxford and

teaches Music and Theory of Knowledge. He is the head of the Pathways and Perspectives programme at St Edward’s, innovative new courses designed to replace some GCSEs, and is heavily involved in curriculum development and teacher training, while also trying to find time to conduct choirs and orchestras and to be an organist!
