45 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE
New Academic Roles As previously announced by the Warden, the generalist Head of Year positions have been replaced by highly targeted roles designed to help all our pupils achieve the best possible academic outcomes. Hugh Stephens becomes Director of Teaching and Learning; Kate Newson becomes Head of Pupil Progress; Rick Storey becomes Head of Pupil Transition; Matthew Golesworthy becomes School Analyst; and Fiona Wickens becomes Head of Pupil Voice and Action. Sophie Waldock becomes Head of Super Curriculum, with responsibility for academic extension within and beyond the timetable, working alongside Marc Gillingwater to prepare pupils for Oxford and Cambridge, and other interviewing universities. Marc Gillingwater’s role as Head of Higher Education expands to include responsibility for our careers and employability programme. More detailed information about these new roles will follow in school publications over the course of the next few months.
New Heads of Department appointed internally are: David Caro Solano, Head of Spanish; Jack Fairbrother, Head of Music Technology; Lauren Mackrell, Head of Academic Drama; Patrick Herring, Head of German; and Monica Islam, Head of Examinations. Interim Heads of Department are: Beckie Thomas, Head of Biology; Christopher Tyer, Head of History and Politics; David Finamore, Head of Economics (for the Autumn Term); and Fred Tao, Head of Geography. We welcome Jonathan Hooper as Head of Computer Science (see page 32) and Virginia Macgregor in the new role of Director of Wellbeing (see page 14). Mark Austen will join us from Stowe as Head of Economics in January. The following new teachers joined us at the start of term: Arthur Friend, Harry Bond, Arthur Smith and Victoria Patel (see page 29) to teach Maths; Amanda Qiu and Jacqueline Simpson to teach Chemistry; Euan Friend (Arthur’s twin brother, see below) to teach
Physics; Jessica Harris to teach Geography and Politics; Kate-Lynne Bouwer to teach English; Dr Marco Narajos to teach Biology; Sebastian Symington to teach Economics and Politics; Katie Gibson to teach in the Learning Support Department and Toby Duncan as Teacher of Ceramics. Qin Su joins as Laboratory Technician in the Chemistry Department. Internally appointed new teachers are: Oscar Allison-Dogar to teach English, Samuel Munday-Webb to teach Drama, Bethany Marett to teach Art and Ceramics, Camille Valente to teach French and Lara Paul to teach Drama, as well as becoming our Stage Manager. Other Appointments Reverend Liz Broughton joins us this term as interim Chaplain. Celia Waterfield has been appointed Head of HR and Fred Gowen’s role of Director of Organisation now includes liaison with international parents (you can read about her work on the St Edward’s Award on page 30).
