Moving On At the end of term we said goodbye to John Simpson who retired after 14 years in the Maths Department; to Phil Waghorn who has a new role at Cokethorpe School; to Jamie Davies who is now Head of Sport at Charterhouse Malaysia; to Rob Craze who has taken up the position of Head of Cricket at Dulwich College; to Mike Jackson who moved on to Jumeirah College in Brunei; to Adib Badri and Marcus Phillips who both moved on to teaching roles at Eton; to Louise Bowen who is now teaching at the Lomond School; and to Juliet Ferguson-Rose and Jane Bowen who will focus on their own practice as artists. Reverend Lennon stepped down from his role as Chaplain and James Mosher came to the end of his year as Assistant Chaplain. We said goodbye to Kristopher Craven, Head of Exams, to Milly Pumfrey, English Teacher, and to Matt Strachan, Geography Teacher. Stephanie Carter moved on from her position as Cowell’s Matron and Gudrun Livingstone stepped down from her role as support Matron. Tracey Stevens moved on from her position as PA to the Sub-Warden. and Joan Sherwell moved on after long service in the school Laundry and in Mac’s respectively. At the end of term, Gabs Damiani will leave to become Director of Music at Our Lady’s Abingdon, Jack Thompson will take up a new role as Organist and Director of Chapel Music at Wellington and Flora Nelson will leave to take up a new role in business. Internal Changes Clare Hamilton took up her new role of Sub-Warden at the start of term succeeding Tony Darby who was appointed Founding Principal of Rugby School Japan last term (read Clare’s thoughts about co-education on page 11). There are several new roles and changes in the Senior Management Team (SMT): David Flower becomes Sub-Warden Academic (read his article about Oxford on page 16), James Cope becomes Deputy Head Safeguarding, Nick Coram-Wright becomes Deputy Head Co-curriculum (see page 22) and Alex Tester joins the SMT as Assistant Head Co curriculum. Alex remains Director of Music until December (see page 24).

Eve Singfield becomes Director of Behaviour and Standards alongside her role of Cooper Lodge HM, stepping down as Assistant Director of Sport. Nic Bond took up the role of Director of Sport last term. Marie-Laure Delvallée, previously Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), has taken on the new role of Head of School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) in MFL. SCITT is an important new initiative at St Edward’s about which you will read more over the coming months.

We said farewell to dance teacher Anthony Edwards and to visiting music teachers Anne Denholm and Jill Donald, the latter after an extraordinary 54-year association with St Edward’s. Ann Smith left the Laundry after providing dedicated service for 29 years. Pam Humphreys stood down as Health Centre Receptionist after 15 years. Robert
