Despite a long School career, not much is recorded about him, he was in the Middle Moderns Form. He left the School during the war and went to Sandhurst College in May 1916 and was commissioned in the 3rd Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment the following November. By February 1917 he had joined his regiment in Belgium and was involved in the last stages of the Battle of Passchendale Ridge ‘which was a horrible struggle in impassable mud, often more than waist deep’ (Chronicle). He was killed in an advanced post at Givenchy, France where every man was a killed before it fell in April 1918. He died a few days before his brother.
