Born Cullybackey, Ireland in 1891, the youngest of three SES brothers. At the School he was most notable for rowing in the Schools Elite Rowing IVs of 1906 and 1907, a member of the Moderns C Form. After leaving he joined the family company Fraser & Haughton Ltd, Bleachers, of Cullybackey, Country Antrim and was one of their managers. He was an enthusiastic Ulster man and an Officer in the Central Antrim Regiment of the Ulster Volunteers. When war broke out, he was commissioned in the 12th Battalion The Royal Irish Rifles as a Second Lieutenant and Adjutant (Ballymena) in August 1914. In February 1915 the regiment moved to Newtownards and five months later he was promoted to Lieutenant. Transferred to the Durham Light Infantry in November 1915 he left for the Western Front and was appointed Adjutant in January 1916. On 1st July - the first day of the Somme Offensive, he begged to be allowed to go out with the first wave and was immediately killed by German machine gun fire. Most of his Platoon were also killed. ‘The devotion and affection he inspired was brought home by the fact that three officers and his soldier-servant were all wounded in attempts to find and help him’.
