St. Augustine’s Church Memorial, Kilburn, London, The Loos Memorial, Pas-de Calais, France, The St. Edward’s School Chapel (Wooden Plaque) and The Cloisters Stone Memorial The younger of two SES brothers, born 1887 in Hampstead, Edwin was a member of the Cricket XI 1904 and a prominent member of the School Choir. On leaving, he was in the Upper Moderns Form. He qualified as a solicitor in Wolverhampton in 1909 and joined the Territorial Army pre war. On the outbreak of war he was commissioned Lieutenant in the 1/6th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment as their Transport Officer in November 1914. The regiment left for France in February 1915. By the time he was killed he had been rapidly promoted to Captain (and Adjutant), mainly due to the loss of so many officers in his regiment. He was killed in action at a particularly dangerous spot on the front line, the Hohenzollern Redoubt (or Hellfire Corner) in Loos, France in mid October 1915. He had been shot through the spine, remained conscious for an hour before succumbing to his wounds.
