Buried Santerno Valley War Cemetery, Italy Remembered National War Memorial of Scotland 1939-45 and The St. Edward’s School WW2 Memorial Born 1923. ‘He always made the most of life; his was a vivid personality, his sparkling eyes and his ready smile revealed a complete frankness of his Celtic nature. He assumed responsibility naturally and became Head of House for the last three weeks of the Christmas Term 1941. He was a member of the School XV’ (Chronicle). He was Senior Prefect (for 3 weeks) 1941, a member of the Rugby Football XV 1940, the 2nd Rowing VIII 1940, Athletics Team, Shooting Team and an Under-Officer in the OTC. On leaving he was in the Maths VIth Form. He went up to Trinity Hall, Cambridge with a view to joining the Colonial Service - ‘A life that would have suited him admirably. He was very much of two minds over what was to him a problem of conscience and he eventually went down to join the King’s Royal Rifle Brigade in 1943’ (Chronicle). He was commissioned in this regiment and made up to Lieutenant by 1942 and posted to Italy. It was there that he was killed in action in December 1944. No further details known.
