Born Galsbury, Powys, Wales 1907. Enlisted in the Pioneer Corps in 1940, commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1940. Married man. Torpedoed while on the SS “Upwey Grange” off the west coast of Ireland in the summer of 1940. All on board managed to get into lifeboats including Mason, but in rough seas the lifeboats became separated and all in his boat were eventually lost and later washed ashore. Mason has never been included in any SES Memorials and, in fact, the details of his loss were only recently brought to light by further research.
