He was a House Prefect, a member of the Lower General VIth Form, 3rd Rowing VIII, The Choir and a Corporal in the OTC. ‘Known as “Jake” and one who loved life and put into it all the keenest and enthusiasm of a generous nature. He was a House Prefect and did valuable service for his House and showed those qualities which, had he lived , would have made him a natural leader’ (Chronicle). Immediately on leaving School he joined the Fleet Air Arm R.N.V.R. in 1939 and two years later was in training as an Acting Lieutenant flying off H.M.S. Daedalus II, a British RN Air Station and Training Establishment based at Sandbanks, Devon. It was there in March 1941, in bad weather he was killed on active service during a night flight at Shrewton, Wiltshire, Devon. No further details known.
